The Origin Story
Sensei created the first ever crane handle back in 1982. When Mark first entered the shear industry, he noticed a problem with beauty shears. Every shear handle had opposing thumb holes, forcing stylists to cram their hands into the shears. This unnatural hand position placed strain on tendons as stylists opened and closed with every cut. As Mark anticipated, the hair industry was rampant with carpal tunnel. Mark had an idea to offer; an ergonomic handle allowing stylists to slip into their shears while the hand rests in a comfortable, neutral position. He invented the first crane handle. This invention the product of the Sensei philosophy. Just like how hair color formulas are constantly improving, Sensei strives to improve shear design by exploring new ways to make healthier, longer lasting, user friendly shear design. This invention unintentionally pushed the shear design industry towards a more ergonomic direction, and that’s how Mark established himself as the trailblazer for shear design. This was 40 years ago and since then, and Sensei is excited to reintroduce the original GSC crane handle with all the newly discovered technologies and added features.
Next gen technology: Seamless Blender
Most blending shears leave behind a blunt line where the cut was made, articulated by a row of dots where the teeth removed a column of hair. By changing the blade geometry, the Seamless Blender shear geometry randomizes the point of entry, resulting in a shear that creates negative space which naturally weaves back into the preexisting texture. This blender pushes the capability of shears; blending and removing weight, all without leaving a trace. After using the shears, we discovered another pleasant quality of this shear: no drag. The highly polished and curved straight edge allows you to close the blades in and comb out without any drag or damage to the hair strand. The blunt edges also provides more control, giving you the ability to remove bulk, create natural movement, or blend extensions, even fine hair, without removing too much. Find out for yourself, the life hack that waits for you.
Experimental new metals
Another exciting discovery made by Sensei was the cryogenic tempering. The metals used for shears are identified by a set of boring letters and numbers, like 440C. 440C is popular type of metal that has been considered top shelf for a long time, and still commonly found in many high end shears today. Sensei discovered that by tweaking the metal formula, they are able to safely increase the hardness. Then by taking an additional step in the foraging process called cryogenic tempering, the structural consistency of the metal can improve at the molecular level. By doing so, edge retention improved by 40%. Sensei stand by their craftsmanship by providing a 1 year blade edge warranty, along with the life time warranty all Sensei shear are held by. See for yourself how Sensei’s proprietary blend of molybdenum alloy beats the generic 440C metals in the market.
But wait, there’s more!
The GSC features the Zero Gravity Tension System™, a new mechanism that holds the blades together in a way that makes the blades feel weightless. This weightlessness is accompanied by a subtle buttery feeling as the two blades glide over each other on the polymer pivot guide™ found inside the pivot area; another Sensei signature invention. Not to mention the option for the rotating thumb handle, which adds a whole new dimension to shear design health and user mobility. Experience the upgraded level of comfort, control, and capabilities of the GSC 23 tooth seamless blender.
