The birth of a new metal: US Carbide Steel

Carbide steel has the reputation of being tough. For example, a hardware store uses carbide steel to cut other steels. A renowned Japanese sword expert and shear maker knew about this metal. He wanted to introduce the strength of carbide steel to into the realm shear forging, but he thought this was impossible. The toughness of carbide made it equally difficult to mold it into the delicate and precise geometry of a convex edge. The sword expert handed the idea to Sensei who took on the challenge. After 2 years of experimentation, a new metal was born; the perfect blend of molybdenum, vanadium, and carbide steel.

Carbide steel alloy is an entirely new metal that doubled the edge retention of other metals currently used. This steel is used to cut other steel, so you know it’s sharp, and it will stay sharp. Military grade, made in the USA.

With the brand new carbide steel in hand, Sensei returned to Japan presenting the metal to an expert craftsman. Satisfied with the quality of the metal, he agreed to forge shears out of them, upon one condition. Each shear must be made one at a time. Like an piece of art, each shear is stamped with the mark of the master craftsman, then sent back to the US where they will be delivered to the artist who want to use the finest tools in the industry.

The entire pivot area is treated with the ultra smooth polymer inlay, reducing the friction into a buttery glide. The tension system employs sealed ball bearing, mechanically stabilizing the shears, further extending the life of the shear.
