Powerful shears. It runs in the family.
Between the blades of Fundamental shears, you’ll find the same powerful convex edges that’s in the upgraded model GSC. While the old school beveled edges were reliable and sturdy, SENSEI convex edges brings to the table a state of the art blades, delivering smoother cuts that you and your clients will notice. The delicate shear geometry creates sharper angles allowing smoother, softer cuts. Slicing, instead of snipping, this minimizes the damage on the hair and the snagging felt by the clients. As SENSEI convex edges brings the sharpness to the next level, these shears can be used for months before reaching the sharpness of a traditional beveled edge. Feel the difference for yourself with a FUNdamental shear, and you will understand why Sensei only produce convex shears.
Duralite
The metals used for shears are identified by a set of exciting letters and numbers, like 440C. 440C is popular type of metal that has been considered top shelf for a long time, and still commonly found in many high end shears today. Mark discovered that by taking an additional step in the foraging process called cryogenic tempering, he can improve the structure of the metal at the molecular level. By doing so, edge retention improved by 40%. He renamed the cryogenically tempered 440C steel, Duralite. As far as Mark knows, Sensei is the only company that invest the time and money to extend the longevity of every shear.
A healthier handle.
With a background in ergonomics, Mark, the founder of Sensei identified the cause of carpal tunnel that was running rampant in the hair industry. Opposing shears, which forced stylists to cram their fingers in an awkward position, placed strain on thumb tendon which slowly escalated to carpal tunnel syndrome over their career. To improve the cutting experience and long term hand health, Sensei set out to create healthier shear handles. In 1982, Sensei came out with the first crane handle shears; a pair of shears which eventually go on to push the shears industry towards a healthier, user friendly design. After the crane handle, Sensei revolutionized the handle again by creating the first rotating thumb handle. Another game changer allowing the shears to work around the stylist, instead of the stylist abiding by the limited mobility of fixed handles. The shears are the physical manifestation of Sensei’s intentions; to providing as much value to the artist as possible. Whether that’s expanding the capabilities of specialized shears, creating a easier and healthier shears, or honest pricing, Sensei has your back.
