Powerful shears. It runs in the family.
Between the blades of Fundamental shears, you’ll find the same powerful convex edges that’s in the upgraded model GSC. While the old school beveled edges were reliable and sturdy, SENSEI convex edges brings to the table a state of the art blades delivering smoother cuts that you and your clients will notice. The complex shear geometry creates sharper angles allowing smoother, softer cuts. Slicing, instead of snipping, means easier cuts for the stylist and cleaner cuts on each strand of hair. Because SENSEI convex edges brings the sharpness to the next level, these shears can be used for months before reaching the sharpness of a traditional beveled edge. Even though convex shears are significantly sharper, not every shear is made with convex edges, because they’re harder to make and harder to maintain. Come feel the difference for yourself with a FUNdamental shear, and you will understand why Sensei only produce convex shears.
Duralite
The metals used for shears are identified by a set of boring letters and numbers, like 440C. 440C is popular type of metal that has been considered top shelf for a long time, and still commonly found in many high end shears today. Sensei discovered that by taking an additional step in the foraging process called cryogenic tempering, he can improve the structure of the metal at the molecular level. By doing so, edge retention improved by 40%. He renamed his cryogenically tempered 440C steel, Duralite.
A healthier handle.
With a background in ergonomics, Mark, the founder of Sensei realized the cause of carpal tunnel that was running rampant in the hair industry. Opposing shears, which forced stylists to cram their fingers in an awkward position, placed strain on thumb tendon which slowly escalated to carpal tunnel syndrome over their career. To improve the cutting experience and long term hand health, Sensei set out to create healthier shear handles. In 1982, the first crane handle came into existence; a pair of shears which eventually go on to push the shears industry towards a healthier, user friendly design. After the crane handle, Sensei revolutionized the handle again by creating the first rotating thumb handle. Another game changer to the shear world that facilitates an effortless grip, regardless of where or how you approach the cut. Sensei strives to for well being of the stylist. The shears are the manifestation of Sensei’s intentions; providing as much value to you as possible. Whether that’s improving shear performance, foraging longer lasting shears, developing healthier shears, or honest pricing, Sensei has your back.
