The Origin Story

Sensei created the first ever crane handle back in 1982; an ergonomic handle allowing stylists to slip into their shears while the hand rests in a comfortable, neutral position. Softcut Technology

Characterized by its curved blades and highly polished edges, this unique blade geometry allows the hair to slip between the blades, performing its own slide cutting action as the blades close in without damaging the hair. Exploring new metals

Another exciting discovery made by Sensei was the cryogenic tempering. The metals used for shears are identified by a set of boring letters and numbers, like 440C. 440C is popular type of metal that has been considered top shelf for a long time, and still commonly found in many high end shears today. Sensei discovered that by tweaking the metal formula, they are able to safely increase the hardness. Then by taking an additional step in the foraging process called cryogenic tempering, the structural consistency of the metal can improve at the molecular level. By doing so, edge retention improved by 40%.
